Flooding

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for the Borough of Avalon for Saturday, November 1st, from 1:00-7:00pm.  The advisory means that there is the potential for minor coastal flooding at time of high tide on Saturday.

A coastal storm is expected to move up the New Jersey coastline on Saturday bringing with it rain, windy conditions, and the potential for coastal flooding along the shore.  The current forecast calls for rain to develop over Avalon during the overnight hours on Saturday and lasting into Saturday evening.  Wind gusts at the end of this storm on Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening are expected to be out of the northwest at 45mph.

Please take necessary precautions during this storm event.  If you have any objects outside of your home that may be subject to strong winds, bring them inside or secure them.  Never attempt to drive through any flooded intersection or on any flooded street.  If you live in a portion of Avalon that typically gets minor flooding during events like these, especially along portions of Ocean Drive, consider moving your vehicle to higher ground on Saturday.

High tide at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City on Saturday, November 1st will be at 3:25am and again at 3:47pm.  The storm is expected to be away from our region by Sunday.  The first high tide on Sunday will be at 3:31am.  Please remember that the portion of Ocean Drive near the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge is subject to wave over wash.  In instances where it is unsafe, the Avalon Police Department will close that roadway making the bridge inaccessible.  Please give yourself extra time if you plan on going to Sea Isle City during this storm event as that portion of Ocean Drive may be closed, especially before, during, and after high tide.

Here is the next of the advisory issued by the National Weather Service Friday afternoon:

flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
