The National Weather Service has posted a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Avalon and nearby communities on Friday, July 1st. The Watch is in effect until 10:00pm. A front is pushing through the greater Delaware Valley region this afternoon and in advance of the front some thunderstorm cells are developing. These storms may contain strong winds, heavy downpours, and possibly hail, if they develop throughout the afternoon and early evening. If you hear thunder or see lightning, please seek shelter immediately especially if you are in an open environment like the beach. Ponding of water in streets may occur during a thunderstorm event. Never attempt to drive on a street or through an intersection that is flooded. If you have any emergency, please dial 911.
