The Avalon Office of Emergency Management has established a warming center for the public for the upcoming cold snap due to arrive this weekend. Avalon OEM Coordinator Edward Dean has designated the Avalon Senior Center to be the warming center for the Borough. The Center, located on the north side of Avalon Borough Hall at 31st Street and Dune Drive, will be open Friday morning through Monday morning as a warming center. Avalon residents who may experience an unexpected lack of heat inside their homes for a power outage or another reason may come to the Center for warmth and comfort from the cold. The Center will be available to the public during the weekend and will also host the monthly Avalon Home and Land Owners Association meeting Saturday, February 13th at 10:00am.

The National Weather Service is predicting high temperatures on Saturday and Sunday to remain in the 20s, with overnight temperatures in the single digits. Wind chill values of below zero are expected at times this weekend. Please limit your exposure to the outdoor elements during this cold weather and protect your pets from cold weather; check on your neighbors for their well-being. If you have any emergency during this period, please dial 911. Take any necessary precautions to prevent your pipes from freezing. If you experience an interruption of electrical service, contact Atlantic City Electric’s outage number at 1-800-833-7476. Any senior who would like to participate in the Senior Alone program coordinated by the Avalon Police Department may contact Police at (609) 967-3411.
