The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for the Borough of Avalon and other Jersey Shore communities in advance of this evening’s high tide.  The Advisory calls for the potential of widespread minor coastal flooding at high tide on Thursday evening, May 25th, which will occur at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City at 8:34pm.

Minor coastal flooding in Avalon generally occurs along portions of Ocean Drive.  Do not attempt to drive on any flooded street or through any flooded intersection as this puts you and your vehicle at risk, and creates an unnecessary wake that can damage private and public property.  If you have any emergency, dial 911.

A northeasterly wind throughout the day is expected to keep this morning’s high tide in the back bay which could heighten the threat of minor coastal flooding this evening.  The Borough of Avalon has prepared this flood risk map that generally shows what areas of Avalon are at risk during various flood advisories, watches, and warnings:

Here is the text of the Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service:

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some Road
closures. Usually... the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to
costly repairs.
